Here's the story of why I'm riding across america

Hello, I’m Dave Nowlan. I cycled from Encinitas, Calif., to Cape Cod, Mass. from April 22 through May 28, 2012 in an effort to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and to help fund research for a cure. My wife, Claire, and daughter, Julia, both have MS. I broke my back in a sledding accident almost three years ago; I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have recovered without being paralyzed and was able to ride this long cross continent adventure. February in Falmouth

Saturday's training ride was very enjoyable, Matt Patrick (prior Mass State Representative) and I rode together for the first 30 miles of the day.  Matt's in great shape, and pushed me to ride faster than normal.  Thanks for the ride Matt!  I ride a total of 60 miles  for te day, making a couple of loops around Falmouth.  Here's one of my views from the top of Falmouth Heights bluff overlooking Falmouth Heights beach and Vineyard Sound.  Great ride on a mild winter day!!

Why I'm riding

Claire, my wife, has had MS for 20 years and over this period serveral new MS drug therapies have been released. These developments have helped to reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations allowing her to live a productive and happy life. She has difficulty climbing stairs but remains active, taking daily walks and providing voice instruction to singers in the Cape Cod area.  While there is no cure for MS, great strides have been made and there could be a cure developed in our lifetime.  Thanks for all your support.

Great February Ride

Today's weather was warmer than I expected. At 45 degrees it allowed for a pretty nice 43 mile ride around Falmouth  Click here for a map of Ride I purchased a new iPhone bike mount and a wireless headset, allowing me to actually make phone calls from the bike.  I was also able to play music in one ear, this was very cool.  There is no audio on this video, but I was actually riding down the bike path while I recorded this.

Cape Cod Rehab Supports NE Patriots and My Ride Across America

My friends at Cape Cod Rehab (CCR) is supporting the New England Patriots in their super bowl game against the NY Giants. They also are supporting my ride across America to help find a cure for MS. This team of professionals have been fantastic, providing their physical therapy expertise helping me to recover from my broken back.   Without this team I would not be able to train for the cross country cycling adventure. They're are also helping by fund raising and publicising this event on their facebook page, in the CCR facilities, etc. Thank you CCR!
