Here's the story of why I'm riding across america

Hello, I’m Dave Nowlan. I cycled from Encinitas, Calif., to Cape Cod, Mass. from April 22 through May 28, 2012 in an effort to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and to help fund research for a cure. My wife, Claire, and daughter, Julia, both have MS. I broke my back in a sledding accident almost three years ago; I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have recovered without being paralyzed and was able to ride this long cross continent adventure. Day 11 Longest Ride to date

Today I rode from Albuquerque to Santa Rosa NM.  The weather was perfect and the roads were good.  The day started with a 10 mile ride on a great bike path.  Then I climbed over another mountain pass heading to the east on RT 66 and stayed on Rt 66 until it ran out, then had to ride the interstate again.  The landscape changed today from mountains to rolling hills with alternating climbs and downhills.

Today's mileage totaled119 miles! Check this map link. This is the longest mileage day yet.  Life is good!  I'm tired and going to bed.  Might make it to Texas tomorrow...

  2. Awesome Day Dave!!! 119 miles!!! You better slow down, it's going to be over before you know it!!!

I bet the bike path was a welcome change from the Interstate. Heck, I take the bike path over the back roads on Cape Cod whenever possible!

About to enter ZZ Top country!!!

  5. Dave,
Congrats on the mileage!!! Very impressive. It must have been Greg Shawver's cooking that gave you the energy for 120 miles.

  7. I've been following you intently on Google maps and wondered if you might try that haul. There didn't seem to be too many towns or places to stop. Congrats on a long -- and I'm sure tiring -- day. Feeling pretty wimpy that I was getting cramps on the club ride after 18 miles. :) -Doug
