Here's the story of why I'm riding across america

Hello, I’m Dave Nowlan. I cycled from Encinitas, Calif., to Cape Cod, Mass. from April 22 through May 28, 2012 in an effort to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and to help fund research for a cure. My wife, Claire, and daughter, Julia, both have MS. I broke my back in a sledding accident almost three years ago; I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have recovered without being paralyzed and was able to ride this long cross continent adventure. Click on this link to “my story” for more information and why I continue riding. Here is a link to Information about MS

Day 12 - One thousand Miles

Today we went from Santa Rosa to San Jon NM, which brought the total miles to just over 1000.  This is a significant milestone keeping us pretty much on track for the 5 week plan for reaching Cape Cod.

The old tow truck is like the one in the movie Cars, which includes many places based on real Route 66 locations.  The tow truck's name is Mater.

There was a bit of a headwind today which kept my speed down. The good news is I was able to ride most of the day on RT 66 vs. I40, a much safer option.  I was able to accumulate 83 more miles today, here's the link to todays route map

We met and enjoyed a visit with Bruce and his colleague, Celeste, at dinner.  Bruce is a retired airline pilot, who is flying a small plane to all continental 48 US States as a bucket list item.  We may meet up with  Bruce later on our journey...
